There can be a lot of confusion for the recently engaged couple on what to look for in their prospective
wedding photographer. Questions can range from what the photographer will wear at the wedding to whether the photographer photographs with
film or digital cameras. Planning a wedding can be a stressful and confusing process. The following guidelines will help soon-to-be
brides and grooms make an informed and solid decision regarding the employment of a wedding photographer. How important is a
wedding photographerAt the end of your wedding day, the things that are going to still be with you are your
memories and, hopefully, beautiful wedding images that will help you relive those moments for the rest of your lives. Therefore,
hiring a wedding photographer is can be compared to hiring a personal historian- someone who will help document and record
the tears, the laughter and the joys of the day. Entrusting your memories to a professional wedding photographer may very
well be the most important decision you make in all of your wedding planning. Therefore, all care should be taken
in ensuring that the professional you select is talented, skilled and fully capable of delivering the finished product. Finding the
right wedding photographer1. What style of photography to you like Do you and your fianc prefer a primarily photojournalistic and
candid approach or is a more traditional style more to your liking Would you like your photographer to perform extensive
post-production to your images (such as color tinting a black and white photograph) or do you prefer a more organic
enhancement of your images2. How many photographers do you want providing coverage of your weddingMany photographers bring second-shooters along to
help cover the wedding. Other photographers prefer to work alone and feel confident in their abilities to provide full coverage
of the wedding solo. Talk with your fianc about your preferences and whether or not you want an assistant to
accompany your photographer. 3. Are your negatives and/or digital files included in the packageMany wedding photographers now include the negatives
and high resolution digital files in their packages but there are a number of photographers who do not. If you're
working with a budget, you may want to look for photographers who offer the negatives and/or files as ordering prints
from a photographer could cost you a lot of money. 4. What sort of photo album are you looking forWedding
albums range from the simple to the extravagant. Some photographers will offer a simple linen album that holds approximately 50
4x6 images. Other options are Flush Mount albums or Coffee Book Table albums. These albums can cost anywhere from $600
to $2000. Review your photographer's samples of wedding albums and talk about what you're looking for. Remember, being informed gives
you the tools to make a good decision about your wedding photographer fotografies gamou. fotografies gamou Knowing what
you're looking for before starting your wedding photographer search will save you a lot of time and help you be
confident that you've made the right decision.

As you plan for your wedding day, you will endure a wide range of experiences, some of which you will
be familiar with prior to this point. Young brides may have hired a caterer for a past function, or a
florist for non-wedding arrangements, and so on. However, many brides have never sought to employ a photographer, particularly to document
and capture what is to be one of the most important days of her life. Oh, and it is important
to the groom, too. So there can be a lot of pressure in this undertaking. (Minor understatement. )Despite these concerns,
hiring a wedding photographer can be a fun process (or, at the very least, less than stressful). Most importantly you
need to focus on five distinct behaviors and characteristics of a photographer and her business. 1. RapportYou will likely meet
with more than one photographer, and in doing so you will learn a lot about the personality and interpersonal skills
of the photographer. You may meet with one who acts like the stereotypical used car salesman, pushing you to sign
on the dotted line while smiling and gazing inappropriately at your mother. You may speak with a photographer, only to
find that she is virtually unable to engage in basic conversation, signifying her lack of social graces. These are, of
course, the extreme cases. You will, though, meet different personalities, and - like it or not - some personalities match
you better than others. It is the way of human social interaction. The general rapport of the photographer will be
absolutely crucial when it matters most - on the day you are married. Find a photographer who can hold a
conversation, be pleasant, and still get the shots needed. 2. StyleYou are hiring a photographer for one primary purpose -
i. e. , to take photographs at your wedding that you will like after your wedding day. You have to
like the style of the photographer selected, be that traditional and posed, dramatic with a fashion flair, photojournalistic and contemporary,
and so on. You are hiring an artist, and the art must be something that speaks to your aesthetic sense.
This is, to my mind, the easiest element to determine. Look at the sample photos, and you may very well
have the 'A Ha' moment. 3. ProductYou aren't looking for a photographer so you can later claim that you did
indeed purchase the 'Rose' package, or whatever cute moniker they develop for their most expensive 'plan. ' You are looking
for photographs, usually actual photographs you can touch and show to your grandmother who doesn't have a computer. What I
am getting at here is, you likely have an idea of what it is you want to HAVE - in
your hands - after the wedding. That might be a DVD with high resolution photographs, it might be two hundred
4X6 prints, or an album. Whatever it is that you really want, you need to be sure that the photographer
can produce, not only the item itself, but a QUALITY item. Albums vary incredibly in style and quality. Prints produced
at your local big box outlet store are NOT the same as prints produced at professional photo printers. Be sure
that you are comfortable with the photographer's products. 4. ProfessionalismLet's say you set up an appointment with a photographer to
talk about her services and she is twelve minutes late, uttering things like, "wow, traffic was bad," or, "I had
a hard time finding the place. " These statements might hold weight in ordinary events, but this is planning for
your WEDDING DAY. Imagine that same photographer making the same statements after missing the beginning of your wedding. That is
unacceptable. Suppose that the photographer is on time to your meeting, but is wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt proclaiming that
the Dublin concert in 1984 really was a lot of fun. You can even like Iron Maiden and still find
this dress less than professional. You should expect, and indeed deserve, a professional photographer - one who exhibits the habits
and behaviors of any business owner. The photographer will need to know their practice inside and out, and if you
ask a question about their business and they seem flustered, then chances are incredible that YOU will be flustered while
they are attempting to take pictures of you. Professional conduct applies in any business, and certainly no less so in
photography. 5. True GestaltPsychologists might cringe at my use of the term 'gestalt' here, but what I am getting at
is this:You are hiring the complete photographer fotografies gamou. They will be at your wedding day and play a
prominent role. You have to like the whole package. So 1-4 above - rapport, style, product, and professionalism - must
come together in a confluence of all the other things about the photographer and yield a complete package that you
can support. This is important because, it is certainly possible that a particular photographer will satisfy your requirements on elements
1-4, but fail in the gestalt overview. If it doesn't all come together, walk away and keep looking. When you
are able to find a photographer with a rapport that matches your general demeanor, a style that calls to your
artistic side, the products that will satisfy you and your loved ones, the professional characteristics necessary for conducting a good
business, and the 'gestalt' nature demonstrating the whole package - you are done looking! Hire that photographer! (As an aside,
let me go out on a limb here and make radical claim - the price doesn't really matter. This will
rile some feathers, but give it some thought. If you are comfortable with the above 5 things to look for
in a wedding photographer, what is the difference of $500 (or more) In the overall scheme of things, this is
a relatively small price to pay for a really great service. Unless, of course, you are planning to get married
many more times. Then you should get your cousin's friend to photograph the wedding who offered to do it for
free since he just got his DSLR and would love to learn how to use it. )This will all take
some time, though some brides luck out and meet with the photographer they will hire on their first attempt. Don't
be discouraged if you have to meet with several, though, as the time spent now will be more than worth
it on your wedding day.

As an experienced wedding photographer in Liverpool and Manchester, I have found ghosting to be a major problem that arises
on a regular basis. It is caused when light is reflected from either inside the lens barrel or elements. When
photographing a wedding, it can often occur as strong light sources such as huge windows (Often seen in fantastic Tudor
style buildings used for weddings), are a favourite haunt for photographers wanting to make the most out of the surroundings
fotografies gamou. Liverpool, Merseyside and Manchester are littered with venues like this and are regular haunts for me on
a daily and weekly basis. fotografies gamou It is often the case that as soon as the camera is
pointed towards the subject (Let say the bride - sitting on a medieval seat right in front of the window),
the risk of 'Ghosting' will be dramatically increased. Doing little or nothing about this could potentially destroy what would be
a fantastic photograph. However, some simple techniques can solve the problem. . . Firstly, good lenses 'Claim' to reduce the
risk of ghosting, although I have yet to find one that completely stops this. Secondly, using a good UV filter
will also help, but again, these can only 'Help reduce' the risk and it is often the case that shooting
directly towards will still result in slight ghosting. Using packages like photo shop can also help, as spending time darkening
the problem area will help reduce the negative effect ghosting gives. The best and simplest way I have found is
to step sideways away from the window and angle the camera till no ghosting can be seen. Take a photograph,
check it, move further sideways, take another and so on until no ghosting occurs. Many of the images I take
are on angles anyway and so if I move away from 'Straight on' towards the window, lets say left, angle
the camera to add a funky look to the image and then press the shutter, ghosting is minimized and a
cool looking photograph is captured. When photographing weddings, one of the most important elements is that you do not keep
the bride waiting. Photographers who are standing around for too long attempting to get the perfect shot will only cause
concern for the bride and cause negative feeling towards you. I find as a photographer that its best to play
it safe. That is why funky angles are common place in many of the photographs I take. Should you as
a photographer REALLY want the straight on image in front of the window, then either get the lens, filter and
spend time editing or simply use the angled option, thus helping reduce the time in post production. An after thought.
. . fotografies gamou Ghosting can be a desirable effect. . . Shoot a few straight on and they
may just work. Remember photographers are (Meant to be) artists, there is no right or wrong way. It is not
maths. . . This is just a guide. . .

Photographs at a wedding are so very important for the bridal couple. These snap shots are going to be stark
reminders of this very special day for as long as the married couples life together. Indian Desi Wedding Photographers are
available to make this incredibly important day especially memorable. Taking photographs cannot be done by just anyone. There are many
factors to consider when doing this. The last thing a newly married couple wants is a bunch of photographs that
have been messed up. The photographer must be able to capture the subjects looking at their most natural. This is
achieved by combining light and composition in a way that creates stunning selections of images. This is what creates photos
that are worthy of being kept for a lifetime. Such pictures are obtained when a couple feels comfortable with the
person taking the pictures. Couples should make sure that choose a person that knows what he or she is doing.
Many people do this for a living or even part-time to earn some extra money. If the photographer is part-time
couples should especially ask to see some of the previous work that has been done. Even with professional full-time companies
this should be the case. Indian brides often want something that is unique to the traditional Asian wedding. They want
the best that money can buy and also want the photographer to understand what is required. Indian weddings can be
very different to traditional affairs of this nature and thrown into the mix is weddings that are attended by large
amounts of people. As this race traditionally has huge extended families it is very likely that there will be a
huge crowd at the celebration. The picture taker needs to understand all of this and also to be aware of
timing within in the Indian culture. Certain companies specialize in these kinds of ceremonies and some of them have client
bases that are seventy percent Muslim, Sikh or Hindu. Many of them have female photographers if this is required. Some
of them are even experienced in taking pictures at Chinese ceremonies. fotografies gamou Many of these are based in
the United States as a result of the large Asian community in the area. Most of these companies offer quotes
that include free travel. Couples can go into the offices of these larger companies or they can look at their
websites to get a feel for the quality of work and their prices. Most often there will be certain Wedding
photography packages that can be chosen. Furthermore, many of them will issue couples with a free no obligation quotation. Many
of these Indian Desi Wedding Photographers will not only do Bridal Portraits or wedding photographs they will do photography for
other occasions as well. This could include events photography or corporate get togethers fotografies gamou. These functions could be
team-building exercises or company awards gala evenings. As there are many of these companies around, time should be spent selecting
the best company to use. Make a list of the companies that were impressive in terms of price and of
course the quality of work. Couples seeking to get married should not be scared to ask for a discount.

If you are planning a wedding and want to save money on wedding photography, one approach people often take is
to in one way or another manage the photography themselves. This often means having a family member or friend help
with the wedding photography. While saving money on wedding photography might seem like a good idea, the last thing you
want is to sacrifice your memories for the sake of a few bucks. If your pictures turn out horrible, you
can't go back and re-do them. Hopefully, you're only going to get married once. Your wedding pictures are going to
be a lasting reminder of that day, and for many people are one of the main lasting images that they
will keep close to them. What I mean is. . . do you know anyone who has a moldy piece
of wedding cake on display in their home from their wedding 20 years ago Of course you don't. It might
be in their freezer, but nobody is ever going to eat it or get much enjoyment from it. Wedding PICTURES
on the other hand are the complete opposite. Chances are, you've seen wedding pictures from 20 years ago and more,
because that is the reminder that people hang on to and display in their homes. The point of all this
is simple: don't skimp on the wedding photography just to save a buck fotografies gamou. You don't want lousy
wedding pictures hanging on your walls for the next 20 years as a reminder that you got a "good deal"
on wedding photography. Do yourself a favor and if you choose to handle the photography on your own, plan very
well ahead of time and do plenty of practice pictures with the person and the camera that you intend to
use. That way, in the event the pictures aren't that great, you will have time to figure out a better
option.

Having a photo booth at a wedding can create the most memorable experiences for family and friends. Something about getting
into a small space together, hidden behind a curtain, brings out a moment of craziness in each person that can
create a visual memory that could literally last a lifetime. Knowing that you have a strip of four creative facial
poses while your friend has an identical strip makes a connection that ultimately has led to the resurgent popularity of
photo booths. Want to rent a booth for your upcoming wedding It may be tough to find one nearby. Try
searching for "rent" "photo booth" and "your city". If nothing turns up, try typing in the nearest big city to
your location. Most equipment rental companies serve a specific regional market, and may travel farther for an additional charge. Also
consider booking well in advance. Photobooth rentals are often made six months or more in advance. If there are not
very many companies to choose from in your area, you want to get on their schedule before someone else takes
your date. gamos Thinking of starting a photo booth business to serve weddings in your area Many successful rental
companies have been started by entrepreneurs around the country. As long as you are committed to the serious effort of
owning your own company, a wedding photo booth business can deliver reliable profit and grow as you experience positive word
of mouth. There are several steps to starting a photobooth event rental business. First evaluate your market. Who will be
your competition, are there many existing companies or no one serving your area at all Next budget your startup costs.
A wedding photo booth with paper and freight costs can total $9000. Then you will need to transport your booth,
which means a trailer, ramp, and large dolly. Include marketing and administration costs for your company, and you will see
the total capital requirements for getting started.

Techniques, 4 Stunning Effects, 4 PicturesThe Zoom Drag (1/10th of a second, f/4, 70mm->24mm) This shot is perfect for dancing
couples at receptions. The couple captured in a moment in the center of the frame - a background of streaking
lights blurred in bocca behind them, it's simply beautiful. To achieve this effect, I've found a dark scene on the
dance floor where there are a bunch of small ambient lights in the background. I have a flash a external
flash on my camera and I'm bouncing it off the ceiling to get good light onto the bride and her
father fotografies gamou. Putting the shutter at 1/10th of a second, and the aperture at f/4, I'm zoomed in
all the way at 70mm on my 24-70mm lens. I brace myself, because as soon as I click the shutter,
I zoom out as fast as possible, hoping to get to 24mm as soon as the shutter closes. fotografies
gamou
If executed correctly, the couple will be sharp, captured by the flash of my camera, while the lighting in
the background will be dragged across the background. Getting the timing right takes some practice, but it's worth it. The
Open Shutter Spin (1/50th of a second, f/2. 8, 24mm) Another technique that will give you stunning images at a
reception. Find a similar setting, dark dance floor with lots of cool source ambient lights in the frame. Position your
flash to light a dancing couple, choose a focal length, and then brace yourself for the shot. Hold the camera
out from your face a little bit, and as soon as you press the shutter, rotate the camera counter clockwise
(clockwise if your lefty) as fast as you can. This will freeze the couple in the center of the frame,
while dragging the ambient lights in the surreal and beautiful to create a beautiful framing effect. The Candid Shot (>50mm)
It's always the case. A moment is happening, you lift your camera to your eye, frame the scene, and then-the
bride or groom stares you in the face and the moment is ruined. Catching candid moments without ruining them is
hard work. So I cheat. I use my super-secret spy lens from Photojojo at . This lens, looks just like
a normal lens, but it has a 45 degree mirror in it and a circular hole in the barrel that
lets you take pictures sideways. You have to see it to believe it, but this attachment lets me take pictures
of moments through the entire wedding without anyone ever looking up and ruining my picture. fotografies gamou Candids just
got a lot easier folks. The Budget Ring Flash Another tech trick. Ring flashes produce vibrant light that makes your
clients look like high-fashion models. . . but. . . they cost somewhere between $300 and $500 dollars. The Good
News is, I've found the "CoCo Ring Flash". Google it! This baby takes the light from your external flash and
uses fiber optics to re-route the light into a circular pattern JUST LIKE A RING FLASH! And it's only $50
at stores like Amazon. It looks fantastic, and you'll clients won't will be thrilled with the unique images you can
produce with it. That's all for now, keep shooting and innovating your creativity! Check out my website to see examples
of me using these techniques as well.

More wedding photographers today are providing full resolution and custom retouched JPEGs on DVD with full copyright release. But is
getting your precious wedding images on DVDs such a great ideaSome people, including a few professional photographers, believe DVDs may
only hold data for up to 8 to 10 years at best. This is probably pretty accurate for most standard
consumer grade DVDs. However, for archiving important files, gold archival DVDs are available which may keep precious photographs and other
files archived over 100 years. You may find suppliers of gold archival DVDs by simply searching with this phrase in
all the popular search engines. As of time of this writing, gold archival DVDs cost around $2. 50 each. It
is also good to know that there are blu-ray discs for high definition wedding videos which may expect to hold
the video for over 200 years as well. To those photographers who are not so sure whether Gold Archival DVDs
will keep wedding photos for so many decades, I remind them, gold is inert and does not oxidize. fotografies
gamou
At minimum, it is reasonable to expect and believe 24 karat gold enveloped in a scratch resistant coating must
be more archival than the conventional photo paper and chemical process which puts a wedding image on top of a
sheet of paper! Yet, there are some photographers who want brides to believe the chemical process of putting an image
on top of a sheet of conventional photo paper is more archival than 24 karat gold and which has been
enveloped in a scratch resistant coating! Brides who retain a professional wedding photographer who will provide her wedding images on
DVDs might want to make sure the photographer uses gold archival DVDs. Some pro photographers, including myself, will provide on
gold archival DVDs at a slightly higher cost. Brides who prefer not to pay the higher cost for gold archival
DVDs know they will just be using the standard DVDs as a medium through which to acquire their wedding images
for archiving on electronic storage media in its various forms. The DVD is simply a temporary portable means of sharing
those images with others to copy and print. DVD technology is therefore not a problem. But the concept of providing
professional wedding photography with full resolution, custom retouched and full copyright released JPEGs on DVDs is the basis of a
non-traditional business model for the wedding photographer. How does this new and growing "DVD wedding photographer" business model compare to
the traditional "album package wedding photographer" modelFirst thing you will notice which distinguishes these two photographers is the DVD wedding
photographer does not contractually obligate the customer to a wedding album at time of signing the wedding contract. The DVD
photographer prefers to allow the customer to first view their wedding photographs. Once the client has viewed her photographs, selected
her favorite horizontal, vertical and various sizes, it can be more easily determined the wedding album the bride will actually
need which best fits her particular needs and taste. Album package photographers on the other hand must obligate the bride
to some pre-designed album package before the bride has seen any photography at all. While this makes business sense and
must be required by the album package photographer, it is purely in the self-interest of the photographer and shows no
concern for the best interest of the bride. The second most distinguishing difference is that from the DVD wedding photographer
the bride simply receives the valuable DVD of full resolution, custom retouched and full copyright released images. This benefit is
not even on the table with album package photographers. And what a list of practical benefits the wedding DVD provides
to the bride! 1. Cropping, retouching, photo tilting, blowing-up and other creative photo manipulation and control as she desires for
her photographs and album(s). 2. If her photographer retires, moves out of state, passes away, goes out of business, suffers
a business catastrophe or whatever, the bride has her wedding images! She has them! 3. If the bride's wedding album
gets lost, damaged or stolen, she can always easily have another new album created since she has her wedding DVD.
4. She does not have to pay the photographer a middle man fee to have prints made. She may send
her photos from her DVD to her favorite online or local photo lab for printing at direct lab prices. Of
course, we all know that album package photographers sure can have a middle man fee tacked on print and album
prices! 5. Most, though not all, album package photographers require the bride and groom to place their album order within
30 to 60 days after the wedding date. This can often be an inconvenience for the new couple just starting
and who have arrangements to make to get their new life together organized. Some photographers will rush the bride and
groom through this process and that really isn't the best way to make sure the bride receives a wedding album
she is going to love. The DVD photographer does not require the purchase of a wedding album. If the bride
wants to order one from her DVD photographer, she may do so at her convenience, on her schedule when she
is ready. She may order an album if she chooses from any one of the dozens of online album services.
It is her decision to do what she believes is best. 6. Depending on the wedding contract, with the DVD
wedding photographer, the bride does not have to pay for an album which she may lose if she has to
cancel her original wedding date. The only nonrefundable fee to the DVD wedding photographer is the booking retainer for the
date. Any and all other money paid on the contract to a DVD photographer is refundable in the event the
wedding date is canceled or rescheduled. There are other differences inherent between DVD wedding photographers and album package wedding photographers
but those differences vary in how both types of photographers choose to treat those issues in both their policies and
contracts. That is beyond the scope of this article for me to address. The reluctance of so many album package
photographers today to accept the DVD photographer business model reminds me of the same reluctance to switch to digital photography
from film. So many album package photographers were film photographers originally. It took many of them years before making the
switch to the digital camera. Now that most of them have switched to digital photography, they still have this age-long
industry mentality of placing their profits largely on the photographic prints and albums they sell. In this case, they want
to keep the "digital negatives" and full copyright ownership and charge an arm and a leg for photographs and albums.
But this old pricing philosophy does not take into account the inherent differences between digital photography and film photography as
the benefits of each relates to the consumer and even to the professional photographer. There are a lot of reasons
why album package photographers still hold to the old business model. I'm not sure but I think it is mostly
due to photo labs and album companies which are constantly providing programs and incentives to keep photographers thinking in terms
of placing their profit on photographs and albums. Otherwise, there would be a dramatic decrease in business for photo labs
and professional album companies. So photo labs and album companies have a lot of reasons to keep photographers thinking in
terms of placing large profits on prints and albums. But when it comes to digital photography, there are a growing
number of photographers who feel that we can provide better and more efficient services and products to our customers through
a different business approach. Instead of pricing photographic prints and albums at high enough prices to collect our necessary profits,
we instead price our wedding photography skills and full resolution and custom retouched JPEGs at prices to collect our necessary
profits. Unlike film negatives which were useful only for printing photos from, our JPEGs are immediately viewable and enjoyable "as
is" right out of our cameras. Since wedding photography customers may use JPEGs in a wide variety of ways to
include digital magazine style wedding albums and very sophisticated slide shows set to music, our "digital negatives" are in fact
a more marketable or desirable photographic product than what photographs and wedding albums use to be. With all of today's
digital devices including large 50" plus plasma monitors, being able to view one's wedding day images as a sophisticated slide
show set to music IS very often more enjoyable to modern brides than flipping through photos in a small book.
When it comes to pricing our photo quality images, there are a few basic approaches. First, the larger the JPEG,
the greater the price per JPEG. Secondly, some photographers sell their photo quality JPEGs in quantity discounts. fotografies gamou
The more photo quality JPEGs a bride purchases, the lower the price per JPEG. Also some photographers do not provide
a full copyright release and they definitely will not transfer copyright ownership under any circumstances. But some do and at
a hefty profit and then only after a certain minimum number of JPEGs have also been purchased. The idea behind
this pricing approach: We as professional digital photographers are selling our actual work; we are selling what the vast majority
of electronic media savvy customers really want to have - the digital negatives. Finally, we are still getting paid and
handsomely for doing this! Now, IF and when the customer wants to buy photographs and albums, she may do so
anytime after her wedding day. She may still order photos and albums from her photographer or from any of the
many labs and album companies online. The choice is hers. This article is not by any means intended to persuade
album package photographers to switch to the DVD wedding photographer business model. (I don't want the extra competition). I've simply
hoped to explain why many of us have adopted this approach. I know this approach to operating a digital wedding
photography business is NOT for everyone. Especially those photographers who feel they may lose money on the additional sales of
photographs and albums if they give up full resolution images and copyright. That is a very good point in theory.
And sometimes it is a practical fact. I've operated my business both ways over the years. fotografies gamou For
me, I personally feel the advantages to my customers and for my reputation far outweighs the loss of some extra
income. Instead, I prefer to make more money serving more customers than trying to get larger sells from a single
customer. In conclusion, there are many benefits to both the digital photographer and to the bride when the photographer simply
offers the full resolution and copyright released wedding images on DVDs to the bride.

If you are in the process of looking for a wedding photographer, chances are you will soon hear the terms:
medium format, 35mm, and digital. Those are the three primary types of camera systems currently used by wedding photographers. We,
the wedding photographers, have argued amongst ourselves for years as to which camera system is best. I'll start by sharing
with you about the different camera systems and will then give you my opinion of which camera system your wedding
photographer should use. Medium FormatFor many years medium format has been the absolute best option. A medium format camera uses
film that is 3 times the size of a 35mm negative-- resulting in higher resolution images and beautiful enlargements, however,
the cameras and processing costs are very expensive. Primary advantages: high resolution negatives. Previously, the fact that a person owned
a Medium Format camera was almost, in and of itself, a sign that they were a true "wedding photographer" (due
to the expense of the system). Disadvantages: expensive to operate (film costs are so high that some wedding photography books
encourage medium format photographers to limit the photos they take); film can be lost or damaged during processing; slower to
focus and operate. 35mmFor many years 35mm has had a bad reputation for providing poor quality enlargements -- especially when
compared to medium format. However, over the past 10 years the quality of 35mm film has improved tremendously. It is
now a common format used by many professional photographers, especially those who use the photojournalistic style and shoot close to
a thousand or more images on a wedding day. Primary advantages to 35mm: fast (easy to quickly focus and shoot
during), much improved quality of enlargements (many people would have a hard time telling the difference between a 35mm and
medium format 8x10 enlargement). Disadvantages: processing film is becoming more and more expensive, and film can be damaged or loss
during processing. Many photographers that shoot film are now having the negatives scanned so that the files become a digital
file. DigitalProfessional digital wedding photography has been a viable option since about the year 2000 (although some would argue that
date). The quality of digital cameras has now reached a point where I now feel digital has surpassed the quality
of medium format negatives. Keep in mind there is a broad variety of cameras, and a "professional" digital camera from
2004 that cost $4,500 new will not capture the quality of images that a "pro-am" (a camera targeted to advanced
amateurs and also professionals) from 2010 that costs $2,000 will capture. fotografies gamou "Digital camera" covers a massive spectrum
of cameras and camera quality. Primary digital advantages: instant review of images on the back of the camera; no film
and processing costs (although the savings is offset by the additional computer time required to process the digital images); more
control over the images (i. e. , a slight rotation or cropping of an image is quick and easy with
digital but requires a custom print from 35mm or medium format). Many digital cameras surpass the quality of even medium
format. Disadvantages: technology changes rapidly over time and cameras soon are outdated (although this doesn't necessarily effect you, as the
consumer). Memory cards are easier to lose than rolls of film (if your wedding photographer uses a digital camera, ask
them how they make sure the photos arrive safely back at the studio). So, which camera system should my photographer
useNo matter what you have been told - all three formats are a viable method for wedding photography. Some might
be more expensive than others, but they all CAN produce good results. The fact is that all three systems can
result in poor-quality photos, too. Many photographers use several of the camera systems. Some might use medium format for the
formals but 35mm for the reception and ceremony coverage. Others will primarily shoot digital, but might bring film cameras as
backup equipment. This is the key: before signing a contract with a photographer, ask to see sample enlargements that were
taken with the same equipment that would be used at your wedding. If you like the quality and color of
the images, it doesn't really matter whether 35mm, digital, or a medium format camera was used to record the image!/>
